But there are many unprivileged people who cannot relish this opportunities they might be suffering from cataract, glaucoma, corneal ulcer and the worst of all blindness. In India there are 15 million people who are either partially or totally blind, that is quite a major number in our society and they must be taken care of. And sometimes you cannot do anything but just give them something because you know they don’t have another option.

Blind Welfare in Mathura

Mathura, being Lord Krishna’s place gives them another option. There are numerous institutions spread across this city, jumbled with the many temples, which take care of the blind and people with eye problems. These institutions aim at making the blind population an integral part of our general society by educating them and training them so as to gain a sense of self-reliance and economic independence. They also make regular presentation to the governments to improve the welfare services for the blind. They also schedule eye camps where they visit the rural places of Mathura and nearby cities and assess and select the patients to provide free operations. The Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram works with the Blind Foundation of India, USA and has helped 15 to 25 patients at every camp they have held. The Shiriji Baba Eye Hospital, under the Kalyanam Karoti, has also been very responsible in this field. In the past 13 years alone they have held 234 camps and examines 3.5 lacks patients at free of cost.

These organisations are doing the work and we must support them in their holy endeavour.
