Another name for the temple is Padmanabha Swayambhu Mandir. ‘Swayam’ means “self” and ‘bhu’ means “born”. Taken together, ‘Swayambhu’ thus stands for “self-manifested or self-born”.
Another theory is that the Lord Brahma, who is said to be the Creator of this Universe, was Himself born from the stem of the Lotus flower coming out of Lord Visnu’s or Bhagvan Padmanabh’s navel. It is generally believed that Shri Chaitanya had paid a visit to this wonderful temple in the year 1515.
